The marine mollusk known as the chambered nautilus has been around before mammals; and its design has changed very little over several millenia because it worked so well. Its so effective, that a modern adaptation for a loudspeaker has been utilized by Bowers & Wilkins. B & W’s flagship model, the Nautilus, features a unique shape for better sound transmission and eliminating distortion. The aluminum tweeters are rigid for resonance and faithful sound reproduction.
